Today I removed a virus from a laptop for a customer in Hyde Park, Leeds. When I was reconnecting it to their wireless network I realised it was unsecure. At the moment there are two types of security on wireless routers. WEP and WPA, WEP is the older security standard and can easily be hacked. Most BT and SKY run on WEP by default, however they are both capable of the more secure WPA features.
You can check that you are running WPA, or at least WEP. If there is no security anyone within range can connect to your broadband, the real concern of this is that individual could potentially be intercepting all your online activity. Anytime you log onto hotmail or online banking they can be taking your passwords.
